Helen Levitt ORIGINAL Gelatin Silver Print SIGNED $8500 Value
Very rare early work. Original untitled silver gelatin photograph “Kids in a Wagon with Horse on the street” signed en verso by Helen Levitt and accompanied by original gallery receipt from G Gibson gallery in Seattle. Circa 1930’s printed later. Purchased from G Gibson gallery in Seattle in March 1999 for $2,500 (~$4,500 adjusted for inflation) along with another photography by Levitt of same size/period and different subject as listed on the receipt. The photo was originally accompanied by a letter from G Gibson gallery appraising the value at $4,000 in April 2000 (~$7,200 adjusted for inflation) , but the appraisal letter got switched with the letter for the other similar Levitt photograph at some point. Robert Capa Vintage Life Mag Silver Gelatin Press Photo Battle of The Bulge 1944
It was featured in the January 15th, 1945 issue of Life Magazine, which i have provided scans of for reference (note: the magazine is not included in the sale). Capa was with the tanks of the 37th Battalion of the 4th Armored Division as they pushed toward Bastogne.
